Immediate Action Urged for Combating Climate Change



Ministry for Forest and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet urged to immediate action for combating climate change. Speaking in the 4-day training cum workshop on identifying and reporting adaption action in National communication for the Asia Pacific and Eastern Europe region on Monday, Basnet emphasize for immediate action for climate change in the developing countries like Nepal.

Basnet says, "Implementation of climate actions, record keeping and reporting is a part of communication of National adaptation actions, the subject matter of this workshop and training is the excellent tool to achieve the mitigation and adaptation goal of Paris Agreement particularly nationally determined contributions (NDC)."

He further added that while implementing mitigation and adaptation activities to combat climate change, adaptation actions must address the needs of poor and marginalized people, who are vulnerable by climate change effects.

This workshop was jointly organized by Ministry for Forest and Environment and United Nation    Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Kathmandu.

The Ministry of Forest and Environment Secretary, Dr Bishwa Nath Oli says that climate change is not issue of environment but part of development issue as well. Oli says, 'Nepal should learn good practice of climate change adaptation actions from other countries.'

Ministry for Forest and Environment, Joint Secretary and Chief of climate change Management Division, Dr. Maheshwar Dhakal shares that this types of training cum workshop is very essential to enhance the capacity of the climate change experts, develop networks among the participants and strengthen periodic reporting to the UNFCCC Secretariat.

Jigme from UNFCCC secretariat and Michinobu Aoyama from Consultative Group of Experts highlighted the importance of the training cum workshop to National communication of adaptation actions.

This workshop will be continue up to 4 days where 43 different countries UNFCCC secretariat are participating.
