‘America’s withdrawal from Paris climate deal is not problem for Nepal’

At a time when there are widespread criticisms over American President Donald Trump’s decision to stay away from Paris Climate Accord, Dr Ram Prasad Lamsal, Chief of Climate Change Management Division and Focal Person of Ministry, said that the move should not be illustrated  as a problem. Lamsal added any country wanting to pull out of the Paris agreement after ratifying it has to wait four years.

Lamsal made such remark at a panel discussion on "Future of Paris Agreement: Its Implication to Nepal" which is jointly organized by KIRDARC and Nepal Civil Society Mountain Initiative. According to Climate Justice Network Nepal coordinator Sarba Raj Khadka , it is high time to play a major role from a movement of the climate justice. President of KIRDARC, Min Bahadur Shahi says, "Developed countries like America should look Global Agreement on Climate Change from the perspective of justice."

Last week, the team of Nepalese Civil Society  submitted  a letter of concern to Stephanie Reed, Deputy Political and Economic Chief, the Political and Economic section at Embassy of the United States of America, Kathmandu concerning Trump's exit from Paris Climate Agreement. On May 31st President Trump announced that the United States would withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord.

Civil Society Organizations, however, say America's withdrawal from Paris Climate Agreement, would affect the least developing countries like Nepal. They are of the view that as temperature is increasing highly and accord is not going to be implemented, it could affect the countries like Nepal.
