18 Rhinos died in one year

In the last one year, 18 Rhinos died which is a wakeup call for conservationist and policy makers. Two rhinos were poached while 16 died naturally in the park this year.

Two Rhinos were dead at Chitwan National Park (CNP) in the past week.   One dead rhino was spotted at Rapti River and Crocodile had eaten some parts of dead body.  Another rhino was found in Kumroj Community Forest. The reason behind the death of rhino is yet to be ascertained.

According to Information Officer and Assistant Conservation Officer of CNP Nurendra Aryal, 'one rhino was swept away by river and one was dead naturally'. Out of two dead rhinos, one was baby rhino and another was female rhino of 3o years.

Conservation officials said that rhino's horn has been taken and it has been placed in the safe place.

CNP has the highest number of one horned rhinos in the country. According to the latest census, the park currently has 605 rhinos.
