Green;a color of life

The color Green not only reflects the beauty of the nature but is also the color of life. It’s the month of Shrawan now; the month of green all around. We can see the greenness marvelously popular everywhere around us. The elegantly beautiful ladies decorated in their dazzling green attires show their connection with the color green and their appropriate fashion sense towards the same. The dedication and passion towards the greenness is quite symbolical in celebrating the power of the green color in the lives of common Hindu women.

Arrival of the month Shrawan itself fills the Nepalese women with full of excitement and festivities. Buying the green bangles and sharing the fashion items with their dearest and nearest ones’ are the most popular trends among the Nepalese women that we can see each year. However, this practice does not root directly to our own native culture. According to the culturist Jagman Gurung, this culture entered Nepal back in 15th century from Rajasthan of India.

Though Not being the native culture, this fashion preference of greenness is however very popular among Nepalese ladies and the craze is growing every year even among the young girls. We can find the heavy presence of green outfits, bangles and mehendi in Nepalese market mostly during this month. From the very beginning of the Shrawan, girls are seen highly concerned and obsessed about decorating their hands with Mehendi and wearing green Bangles.

The Month of Shrawan is considered all about as the green month. The flavor of green is popular across everyone from small children to school and college going teenagers and to the mature ones andamong both married and unmarried ladies. In social media, we can see the personal wallsand timelines filled up with the hefty promotion of the Green through the colorof green dresses and bangles.

According to a model Namrata yogi, she can't wear the green bangles for the entire month but wear sit for at least four days because of her staunchbelief in our holy culture. However, she doesn’t feelthat wearing banglesalone willbring the happiness and prosperity to women’s life.

Sabina KC, Student of Master in Economic at Tribhuvan University, believes that green bangles are worn with the prophecy of fulfilmentof one's desires and with the wish of a happy and prosperous life ofthe family members. She recalls"I used to wear this because my friends worethem and I like to wear those too."

According to the culturist Dr Jagman Gurung,“Women wear the green bangles and observe worships and fastingsduring this month in name of the Lord Shiva. The scientific reason behind this practiceis the respectful way of attributing the Earth as Mother Nature or Mother God. The Earth should inevitably be fertile for the production and growth of the foods. The celebrations during this month of Shrawan also give the message that Earth should be green and must be kept so for eternity. Green is the power that symbolizes fertility. There seems to be the close connection between Nepalese women and the celebration of the green Shrawan days with their immense belief on the reproduction and fertility of women, good health and long life of their offspring, and to attract the men to some extent.”
