Tourist activities affecting the wildlife: Study

The study in Chitwan National Park (CNP) shows that high inflow of tourists and their different activities affected the daily routine of wildlife.

A study done by Dr.Rakshya Thapa, Assistant Professor of Tribhuvan University, showed that photo shoot and producing pollution is becoming a serious problem for wildlife.

The conservation conflict arises because the local people residing near by the protected area suffer from different kinds of losses and damages caused by wildlife such as crops losses, property losses and even sometimes human casualties and human losses.

Such conflict is not only associated with the attitude of the local communities but also with the visitor who visits the park.

Rakshya  Thapa  shared, " It is a major challenging task for park management to protect wild mammals like Rhino and Bengal Tiger."

Poaching of wildlife and retaliation against them are the major problems associated with Human wildlife conflict, as shown by the analysis of the research. Poaching of wildlife is increasing due to a high demand for their body parts in the international market.

The conflicts have been escalated more by the behavior of park officials towards local people and due to the limited compensation scheme provided by the government for wildlife caused damage.

The main goal of this study was to determine inter-relationship between three important factors local community, wild mammals especially one –honored Rhino, Bengal tiger, and Visitors of CNP.

The study suggests that detail study concerning the core problems of local people and visitors should be highlighted along with the rise in awareness of conserving the threatened animals like tiger and rhinos should be initiated.
