The best three environment essay announced

The best three essays were announced and awarded on Thursday, 11 August 2016 amid a formal prize distribution program at Chamber Hall, Jamal among more than 120 guests. Cleanu up Nepal and UNESCO education unit in Kathmandu organized a Schol level Enivornmet Essay contest on the topic Waste burning: Its impact and the role of youth to mitigate it” for secondary schools of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur Districts.
In the contest , 1st Rabin Luitel, Bright Horizon Children's Home School, Kathmandu , 2nd Prabhash GC, Sainik Awasik Maha Vidhyalaya, Bhaktapur and 3rd Abhinav Dev, Budhanilkantha School, Kathmandu.The first, second and third essays were awarded Rs. 30 000, Rs. 20 000 and Rs 10 000 respectively.
Bishwa Mani Gyawali, Executive Director of Solid Waste Management Technical Support Centre congratulated all the participating schools and students and emphasized on the implementation of Solid Waste Management Act 2068 and Solid Waste Management Regulation 2070 by the local authority.
According to organizer, to raise awareness among schools and students about the issue of waste burning that is running rampant in the urban areas of Nepal essay contest was organized. The essay contest was launched on the occasion of World Environment Day on 5 June 2016 and the winners of the contest were declared on the eve of the International Youth Day 2016. A short drama prepared for the awareness on best practices of waste management prepared by youths of Amics Del Nepal was also shown at the event.
Nora Wenger representative of UNESCO Education unit Kathmandu emphasised on the role of youth to attain sustainable development goals 2030. Altogether 40 schools participated in the contest engaging more than 1700 students. The schools conducted internal contest in the same topic and submitted the winning essay within their schools.
