2018 Hult Prize at Kathmandu University

The second edition of Hult Prize at Kathmandu University was organized by a team of Kathmandu University students on 12th December, 2017 in KU, Dhulikhel. Out of 48 participating teams, 4 teams progressed to the final round after the first preliminary pitching round. The top 4 ideas were then selected by a panel of 12 judges in the final round of the 2018 Hult Prize at Kathmandu University On-Campus Finals.
Team So. Po. Co., a team of three MBA students from KUSOM won the final competition and will be representing Kathmandu University in the Regional's Finals in March, 2018.
Pramila Ramtel, the Outreach and Promotion Coordinator of Hult Prize at Kathmandu University Said, “Info-sessions were organized throughout November for students of all schools of Kathmandu University to help them learn about Hult Prize, the impact it has created in the world, the on-campus event and this year’s challenge.”
After an intense mentorship session on 2nd December, all the participating teams progressed to the on-campus finals. Four teams to make into the final round from each pitch room were: Team Neonoid, Team Sambhav, Team So. Po. Co and Team Aqua. Team So. Po. Co. secured the first position. Their idea was to impact the lives of people living in darkness by developing a solar powered system integrated with a digital sianage. Team Sambhav, Team Aqua and Team Neonoid secured 2nd, 3rd and 4th position respectively.
“It's been a pleasure to give the BMC workshop and listen to the final presentations. I really appreciated that the students actually implemented the learnings during the workshop in their pitches” shared Victoria Ous, the program director of Rockstart Impact.
“Today some of us are pitching to solve the problem of health, some- education or some of us to solve the problem mobility, but together we are all trying to create an impact. This brings out the good in us, and this is what the impact of Hult Prize is” Gaurab Dahal, the campus director of Hult Prize at KU addressed the crowd of more than 200 participants in the inaugurated ceremony.
The judges for the competition were: Shreejana Rana, Executive director of Hotel Annapurna, Ms Victoria Ous, Program Director Rockstart Impact, Shanti Karanjit, Climate Change Analyst, UNDP Nepal, Rupesh Krishna Shrestha, Co-founder of Idea Studio, Ashutosh Mani Dixit, Former National Consultant of National Planning Commission, Amun Thapa, CEO of Sasto Deal, Amit Agrawal, CEO of Janaki Technology (Khalti Digital Wallet), Vishwa Amatya, Senior Energy expert, Practical Action, Prashanta Manandhar, Founder of The Storytellers Nepal, Umes Shrestha, Founder of Empowerment Academy, Mahabir Pun, Social Entrepreneur and Deepak Mani Dhital, Acting GM of Nepal Television.
The application form for Hult Prize at Kathmandu University (KU) 2017/18 opened on October 19. Hult Prize is open for all students from KU. Students will form a team of 3-4 members and register their team to compete in ‘Hult Prize at KU’.
The teams have to come up with an enterprise idea tackling the problems relating to the Hult Prize Challenge 2018. One winning team will represent Kathmandu University in one of the 15 regional finals around the world in March 2018.
The 2018 Hult Prize Challenge is ‘Harnessing the power of Energy to transform the lives of 10 million people’.
Hult Prize is an international social entrepreneurship idea competition that invites young students to formulate a business idea that can solve a global pressing problem or challenge announced by President Bill Clinton. Hult Prize is a partnership between Clinton Global Initiative and Hult International Business School.
