Local Government Officials Oriented on Renewable Energy  



Center for Rural Technology- Nepal (CRT/N) in association with Bethanchowk Rural Municipality, Kavrepalanchowk and Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC) organized one-day orientation program on ‘Renewable Energy Technologies and Gender and Energy Nexus’ on 6 April 2018 at Bethanchowk, Kavrepalanchowk.

The objectives of this one day interaction and orientation program was to make local government officials aware and to orient them on the importance and benefit of renewable energy, emphasizing women's’ participation on use and management of energy, and to orient about Eco-Village Development (EVD) concept and approach and its vital role on enhancing livelihood of disadvantaged and marginalized people of rural communities.

Officials of Bethanchowk Rural Municipality, five elected members from each ward, representatives of CRT/N and AEPC were participants in the program.  In the workshop, participants discussed the importance of renewable energy technologies in Eco-Village Development concept.

The workshop  was mainly focused on renewable energy nexus gender.

Ganesh Prasad Dulal, chairperson ward number 5 raised query on tapping the subsidy allocated locally. Answering his query Sundar Bahadur Khadka, representative from   AEPC said that AEPC will support in capacity building of local agencies for development of technical aspect and subsidy.

Sarita Lamichhane, the vice chairperson of Bethanchowk Rural Municipality expressed that she learned about the importance of renewable energy technologies. She also raised her voice on optimum utilization of local resources for the benefit and livelihood improvement of local communities. As well as she endorsed the need of women-friendly energy technologies. The chairperson, Prem Bahadur Timilsina acknowledged the activities and initiatives of CRT/N in Bethanchowk Rural Municipality.

CRT/N has promoted several environmental friendly activities like renewable energy technologies, improved agricultural practices, forest conservation, water and waste management by using local level resources.
