UN Stand with Nepalese Civil Society on Paris Climate Agreement

Nepalese Civil Society Mountain Initiative (NCSMI) and Campaign for Climate Justice Nepal (CCJN) representative met a representative of UN agencies of Nepal and handed a letter of concern on USA Government’s withdrawal from Paris Climate Agreement.

Gyan Bahadur Adhikari from CCJN handed over a letter to Nicole Ann Hosein, Special Assistant to the Resident Coordinator Office of the UN Resident Coordinator, UN House, Pulchowk.

As mention in a letter, “We highly appreciate UNFCCC arduous role and relentless efforts to achieve Paris Climate Agreement. We urge you to take a firm stand for a poor and vulnerable community of Nepal and do not agree on USA’s possible request of re-negotiating the Paris Climate Agreement, betray the humanity, run away from its international commitment but fully adhere to it. We strongly believe that re-negotiating Paris Climate Agreement is putting millions and vulnerable people's lives in seamless problems."

Nicole Ann Hosein apologized that UN Resident Coordinator had another urgent engagement to attend so she could not join us in the meeting. Nicole said she will hand over the concerns from NCSMI and CCJN to UN Resident Coordinator at UN House, Pulchowk.  UN Resident Coordinator will further send the letter to António Guterres, The United Nations Secretary-General at UN Headquarters, New York.

Nepalese Civil Society Mountain initiative also handed Letter of Concern to Embassy of United States of America in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu and organized panel discussion on “Future of Paris Climate Agreement: It’s Implication to Nepal” after USA Government withdrawal from Paris Climate Agreement.
