Honking horns banned in Province 1

The local authorities have issued a ban on honking horn in 14 districts.

The Eastern Regional Traffic police office imposed the ban of vehicle horns as per the decision taken by the local authorities.

The horn ban will be effective from Sunday in Taplejung, Paanchthar, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Terhathum, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Khotang, Okhaldhunga and Udayapur.

The decision was jointly taken by Transport Management Department, Road Department, District Traffic Police Office and District Administration Office.

The drivers may honk their horns at the turning points, during emergency scenarios of likely collisions and to avoid ramming into pedestrians.

The traffic cop may fine an offender with an amount of Rs 500 first time, and Rs 1000 and Rs 1500 for second and third time if he/she is found blowing horn without reason.

The traffic police, for the first time, banned horn honking in Kathmandu city since the very first day of New Year 2074, bearing in mind the increasing noise pollution caused by vehicles and its adverse impact on public health.
